Livin' the DreamOctober means many things - fall moves into full gear, the leaves start to change, the football fields are filled, and (more near and dear to my heart), college basketball practice officially begins.

Over the past couple of years, I've played ball with an exhibition team called Livin-the-Dream. Every year, a few of us ex-college athletes try to regain some of our youth and lace up the sneaks once more. The team is sponsored, coached and administrated by a Christian ministry of the same name started by a good friend of mine named Brad Mann. They don't come any better than this guy. He's poured his heart and soul into this organization, and it shows. You can learn more about it here: (livin-the-dream.com) Over the last couple of years, it has taken two teams overseas to conduct camps and clinics for underprivileged kids, as well as play some scrimmages against semi-professional teams abroad.

Now, for obvious reasons, I won't be on this year's roster, which is probably actually a case of addition by subtraction. I checked out the new lineup on the website, and it looks pretty solid. Brad has added some kids from KU, KSU and MU, as well as bringing back some old mainstays.

LTD gameFor those of you unfamiliar with an exhibition team, it is the game on the schedule for opposing teams which doesn't count. It provides a set of new bodies for area college teams to play against under real game conditions. A dress rehearsal if you will.

If you are interested in going to a game, check out the schedule for this year. They've got a good set of games all over the area, from Northwest Missouri in Maryville, all the way down to College of the Ozarks in Branson. For those of you in Joplin, they'll be playing Southern on Saturday, November 10 at 3:00.

Oh, and just to add another wrinkle, LTD has grown to include a women's exhibition team. You can catch their schedule on the site as well.

So, get out and enjoy some basketball. If nothing else, you'll be supporting a great Christian ministry, and a team of great guys.
